Bathroom Resources + Domaine Love

FancyFreeMe on Domaine

Last Friday was a fabulous day for me. I’m sure you are familiar with the ultra chic home decor site Domaine, (if not, go now I promise you won’t be disappointed.) If you follow Domaine on Instagram they do a “Show Us Yours” contest every now and then where they ask for your home decor pics and then they post their favorites on their website.  Last Thursday it was Bedside Tables. On a whim I entered my bedside table and lo and behold they LOVED it! Let me just tell you it was mighty nice (ok,seriously i was jumping up and down and emailed the link to everyone I know) to see my little table on my favorite home decor site.

My photo is among some other great bedside table designs, so be sure to check out the rest of the winners here. Now that I have that out of my system lets move on to my b + w bathroom resource list.

rug {dash + albert} \\  shower curtain {pottery barn}  \\  cincinnati map art {high street market}  \\  faucet {moen}  \\  bath towels {ralph lauren}  \\  striped hand towels-similar {west elm}  \\  clock {ikea}  \\   light {portfolio}  \\  medicine cabinet {kohler} \\ basket {home goods}

It’s only been 2 days since it’s been finished but let me just say I LOVE it. I think my favorite part is the faucet. It functions sooo much better than what was there.

ORClinkingparticipantCIH***  Today is also the beginning of Linda of Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge. This is my favorite design blogging event. Here’s a quick run down for those who don’t know. Linda along with 19 other bloggers transform one room in their house in 6 weeks. And these aren’t piddly little renos, they are big transformations that are super fun to watch.

Linda has opened up the ORC to everyone this year, all you have to do is link up your project on her blog on Thursday (click here for the details.) I am so excited she did this and I plan on partaking. So be sure to stop back tomorrow for details on what new project I’ll be getting into!! Are you planning on joining in?!

Bathroom REVEAL!! { White Room Rally }

Here we go guys! Welcome to my new b + w bathroom! I can’t begin to tell you how much I am loving this space. When I first started I knew I wanted a white bathroom and I didn’t want to do an entire reno. My compromise was to paint, accessorize and to replace fixtures like lights and faucets with chrome to coordinate with existing chrome fixtures for a more cohesive feel.

This is my one and only bathroom, yikes! So I wanted it to be bright, welcoming and clean.

Because counter space is an issue I added a small side table to hold bits and pieces I don’t want falling down the drain.

I also added a basket to the back of my toilet for an additional resting spot for things like glasses, tissues, and usually a pile of hair-bands. I really don’t know why I didn’t add one of these sooner.

The faucet was replaced with one with a higher neck. We had to cram our hands into the wall of the sink to wash them, so it was a real no brainer when it came time to replace it.

I painted the vanity white instead of replacing it which, if I could do again, I’d replace it. I think the paint looks fabulous and overall it’s a great improvement, so it’s a keeper for now. I think a new one would have looked phenomenal, but you gotta draw the line somewhere right?

I did replace the medicine cabinet unexpectedly and i love the simple frameless look of the mirror. Not to mention all the mirrors on the inside and the glass shelving.

I debated long and hard on replacing the light fixture and in the end I decided to do it. The one we had up was not my taste and it was brushed nickel. By adding a light fixture with chrome completely unified the space. And I don’t have to look at that ugly off-center monstrosity anymore.

And just to remind you where I started, here’s a side by side before and after shot.

White-Room-Rally-web-versionIf you’ve been following along you know Jennifer from Brave New Home has her White Bathroom Reveal today too! I’m super excited to see how she wrapped everything up, so I hope you’ll join me and check out her bathroom here.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Lets talk Medicine Cabinets today. I originally wanted to replace mine but was having trouble finding a suitable substitute. I needed something that could hang on the wall and not have to be recessed into it. It also needed to have ample storage because it’s nearly the only closed space we have for our toiletries. It also couldn’t cost a fortune. I didn’t think I was going to find anything so I actually started painting mine. Here’s a pic of the old guy incase you need a refresher.

Fixing my Broken Medicine Cabinet

I love the simple + classic look of these pivot mirrors here, but they don’t have storage. I was seconds away from pulling the trigger on this guy from pottery barn here. But as fate had it I found this one here  at Lowes and the second I opened it up I was sold. I put it in my cart and never looked back.

So what drew me to this cabinet?? The Mirrors! I don’t consider myself a vein person but I absolutely love all the mirrors and hate opening the cabinet to get what I need, say some mascara, only to have to close it to apply said mascara.

This bad boy has a mirror behind the shelves and on the inside of the door. Talk about accommodating the heck out of this lazy girl! In my old cabinet I had a hand mirror propped up on the inside shelves behind my makeup, so I wouldn’t have to keep opening and closing the door. In theory it worked, until I moved a bottle. Then it would topple over, spilling the contents of the cabinet all over the sink. I’m still not sure how I managed to keep the mirror in one piece for 5 years.

I also upgraded my cabinet storage vessels to these clear acrylic containers from the Container Store here and here. I was using old gum boxes left over from college when my mom would buy me gum in bulk. Those needed to go a long time ago, it’s just one of those things I never thought about.

Much better right?! Do you have any tips or trick to keeping your cabinet organized?
