House warming gifts can get a bit tricky to give sometimes. What do you get for someone who has just moved into a new home? They probably don’t have color schemes down yet and heck, you’ve probably not even been there to check things out if they do! A nice bottle of wine is always an option, but what if you want to do something more personal.
I feel that table linens are usually a great option. You can never really have too many. They are fun to change out seasonally and they are quite useful, especially in my house where sticky fingers don’t come in short supply.
When looking for napkin fabric I almost always go with 100% cotton. It is soft durable, washes well, and most people don’t have cotton allergies. ** Make sure you pre-wash and dry your fabric before you start sewing to keep the napkins from shrinking awkwardly.
I embellished the napkins with a fun tag (printed on a heavier weight paper) and secured it with a coordinating ribbon for that custom hand-made feel.
I also took the time to miter the corners of the napkins for a professional and polished look. Here is a great tutorial from Crafty Nest on how to do that if you are interested in making your own. But if sewing isn’t your thing, you can always buy linens from a store and add ribbon and tags to them for a more customized look.
