Lack Hack Reveal
Well I’m sure you all know what today is, which is exactly why you showed up! It’s the Fancy Free Me Lack Hack Reveal!
Here’s a before photo just to remind you what I had to start with.
Before:
I was using this Ikea Lack table for my daughter to play on. But inspiration hit when Young House Love challenged their readers here to come up with a new twist on a DIY.
So without further ado I give you my Lack Hack!
After:
My inspiration came from Little Green Notebooks Ikea Hack. I had it pinned in my I made it folder where it probably would have stayed had YHL not started a fire under behind!
How I did it:
My Lack Hack was done over 2 days but could have been easily accomplished in 1 day. I got the hardware from Rockler here and here and simply drilled some pilot holes for the screws and nails so the particle board or whatever this thing is made of didn’t split or gum up. Then I screwed in the screws and nailed in the nails pretty self-explanatory right? So I’ll save you from those pics.
From there I put the table together to check out my handy work.
Looks pretty good! I was tempted to leave it, I love the hardware, but I pressed on.
I washed all the toddler grime off the top and I drew a cross through the middle of the table in pencil so I could evenly mark out my tape diamonds. The diamond are all just randomly spaced, I made the pattern up as I went. Cutting the tape so that it was perfect on the corners was probably the most difficult part.
After the tape was on, I took it out back to spray it with 6 thin coats of gold spray paint. Dry time between coats was only 5 min so the painting went pretty quick.
Then came my favorite part. Removing the tape! I swear there is no better feeling than pulling tape off to reveal crisp perfect lines.
I let the top cure for 24 hours just to be safe before using it in my room.
I absolutely love the corner hardware, it’s big and chunky and stands out perfectly against the painted top!
The little foot hardware makes a great finishing touch, don’t ya think?!
I had so much fun with this project. Thanks Young House Love for prompting me to get up and get going this weekend. If you’d like to check out what they and everyone else did just click here.
What do you think? Is there a space for this Lack Hack in your house?

Looks awesome! I have a few lack tables laying around and I just might try this. I’m thinking I will combine the top design with the lack art/bookshelf that John & Sherry at Young House Love did in their book. Great inspiration!
Sounds great! I love taking designs and tweaking them to my own style. I think your idea sounds great!
